Dr John Byrne has been confirmed as the new Senior Responsible Owner for the Yorkshire & Humber Care Record – one of five exemplars within NHS England’s Local Health and Care Record programme.
Dr Byrne, an Executive Medical Director at Humber Teaching NHS Foundation Trust which provides mental health, community, GP, learning disability and specialist services also has a GP background.
He is also the executive lead for quality improvement and knows what is important to both staff and those accessing health and care services.
John has already played a pivotal role in the programme by helping to join up the region wide integration technology with the needs of health and social care staff and the public. His appointment brings the programme one step closer to reaching its ambitions where organisations can share data across the health and care system so local people can get the right care at the right time in the right place, with safety and effectiveness. Importantly, it will also give people access to their information with the reassurance that their personal data is safe.
Dr Bryne said, “I’m absolutely thrilled to be leading this ambitious programme of work for our region. For years I’ve been passionate about quality improvement and research, the success of Yorkshire & Humber Care Record is central to achieving this mission for the people we work with. One of the key areas I would like to drive forward is patients accessing and contributing to their own health and social care record, which is an integral part of the overall ambition of the programme.”
Rob Webster, Chair of Yorkshire & Humber Digital Care Board; CEO for South West Yorkshire Partnership Foundation Trust and CEO Lead for West Yorkshire and Harrogate Health and Care Partnership said, “I am delighted that John is taking up this role. He is a clinical leader and strong advocate for using technology to improve safety, patient experience and population outcomes. He joins a strong team with ambitions for improving health and care across Yorkshire & Humber.”
