A refreshed Green Plan for 2025-28 has been published by our ICB – and we encourage you to take a look.
It sets out a strategy to achieve a net zero healthcare system, adapt to climate change and improve people’s health and wellbeing.
Nolan Bennett, the ICB’s Assistant Director with responsibility for Estates, Infrastructure and Sustainability, said: “This is a really important part of the NHS’s continued action across Humber and North Yorkshire to achieve a net zero healthcare system that will ultimately enable people to lead healthier lives and experience better wellbeing through access to the natural environment and sustainable infrastructure.
“We’ve achieved a lot as a system, and there is more to be done. We all have a part to play in this, and I’d welcome a conversation with anyone who wants to get more involved.”
Climate change is considered a direct driver of humanitarian emergencies and is projected to cause a substantial number of preventable deaths each year. Its effects disproportionately impact on people of all ages who already face health inequalities. As these impacts intensify, they will place increasing pressure on the healthcare system.
However, reducing greenhouse gas emissions—through improved choices in transport, food, and energy use—can lead to significant health benefits, particularly by lowering air pollution.
