Community Champions
A NHS Community Champion is simply a person, or group of people, who are helping other people in Humber and North Yorkshire to be healthy and happy.
What is the NHS Community Champions?
“We want to celebrate the work happening in communities to improve health and wellbeing.”
Erica Daley, NHS Place Director.
The NHS Community Champions Initiative is a collaborative programme aimed at empowering individuals within local communities to promote health and well-being.
Through this initiative, voluntary and community organisations are supported to become advocates for public health, engaging with their communities to raise awareness, provide information, and encourage healthy behaviours.
The initiative provides support, training, and networking opportunities for champions, who may come from diverse backgrounds and initiatives, such as community volunteering, promoting healthy eating, or raising awareness about health conditions.
In return, champions contribute to creating a healthier population by advocating for informed choices and supporting community well-being. Through this initiative, the NHS seeks to enhance health literacy, empower individuals, and build a stronger, healthier community in Hull.
The initiative plays a crucial role in addressing health inequalities, improving access to healthcare services, and fostering a sense of belonging and solidarity within communities. By mobilising grassroots efforts, the NHS Community Champions Initiative strives to create positive and lasting impacts on the overall health and resilience of communities across Hull and East Riding of Yorkshire.
