Across Humber, Coast and Vale the Health and Social Care Workforce Consortium are working together with partners to promote Health and Social Care as a career of choice.
As part of our efforts, a Humber, Coast and Vale Health and Social Care Ambassador Scheme will be formally launched at an online event on Tuesday 8th June 2021 at 10am, to support careers promotion and maximise the reach and impact of employer engagement.
Working in partnership with Skills for Care’s I Care Ambassadors, the scheme will be managed by the Workforce Consortium Programme Team, to provide support for employers to undertake Ambassador activity, coordinating that activity with schools, colleges, job centres and at careers events.
In a previous blog in January I spoke about our collective efforts and determination to invest in the next generation of caring professionals, working with our partners to meet the needs of our region’s primary care and health and social care organisations in the future.
It is vital that we continue to work closely with our partners to understand and address skills shortages, attract new talent, upskill existing staff, and retain our workforce.
The health and social care workforce is the primary driver of care delivery. Inspiring the potential new recruits and trainees, through the work of the Ambassador Programme, will help us plan and develop the right workforce with the right skills for the future.
Employees who enrol as ambassadors can make a difference to young people, which in turn can be a great source of personal and professional satisfaction and motivation, whilst developing workplace skills such as planning and communication which can support development and retention.
Employers to have already signed up to the scheme include York and Scarborough Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust, Haxby Group (primary care) and East Riding of Yorkshire Council. We look forward to working with these partners to enlist the support of many individual ambassadors across the region. We hope that many more employers will attend the launch event and see the benefits of registering.
Our ambition is to develop career pathway resources, making best use of the I Care Ambassadors Framework and our AIEM Framework for engagement, whilst ensuring a good coverage across our localities and the right mix of health and social care providers.
The Health and Social Care Workforce Consortium team will liaise with a range of schools, colleges and job centres, seeking suitable matches with employers and making the process as simple as possible for all involved.
The two hour online launch event will discuss the scheme and the benefits and will include talks from key partners including:

-Students and staff from St Mary’s Academy Hull and Franklin Sixth Form College Grimsby.
