International Women’s Day 2023

Women across Humber and North Yorkshire Health and Care Partnership came together this week to #EmbraceEquity and mark International Women’s Day (IWD).

IWD took place on Wednesday 8 March, which also happened to be the day of our latest ICB board meeting, and as such our strong female representation came together to celebrate the amazing work women across the partnership have achieved.

IWD is celebrated annually on 8 March and provides an opportunity to recognise and raise conversations around the social, economic, cultural and political achievements of women across the world and address equity and gender-based issues that still exist in our current society.

The aim of the day is to raise awareness and start important conversations, and it can be traced back to 1911 when more than one million women and men attended IWD rallies campaigning for women’s rights to work, vote, be trained, to hold public office and end discrimination.

A significant proportion of health and care workforce are women, and we are proud of the work they do every day to provide safe, high-quality care for the people of Humber and North Yorkshire.

Our women’s development programmes are raising the voices of female leaders across our system, to fight for equity and level the playing field. There is more work to do on ensuring we achieve true gender parity, but we are committed to tackling discrimination in all its forms and celebrating the diversity of all women working in our partnership.

We are one of the first health and care systems in the UK to be accredited as menopause friendly, offering access to regular learning opportunities for both those experiencing the menopause and those who support people who do. We are working to ensure access to free period products and all colleagues can use our free and confidential health and wellbeing support, including through our dedicated app.

Many health and social care services are underpinned by the talent, the energy, the professionalism and resilience of the women – putting the needs of local people at the heart of everything they do. Women are the beating heart of our local services, and we are immensely proud of the work of all women working in Humber and North Yorkshire.

There are many events taking place to celebrate 2023 International Women’s Day, including virtual events such as the following:
